PUBLIC RESOURCES

In 2009 the Monroe County Public Library, in cooperation with the Monroe County History Center, were awarded a grant to complete a project meant to uncover the development of the Indiana limestone industry across the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The project’s stated goal was to fill in some information gaps regarding the Indiana limestone industry and promote the heritage of Indiana limestone.

“The lack of literature about the stone is understandable in that the people who might be expecting to write about it were busy producing, sawing, planing, and carving it.”

Bill McDonald, A Short History of Indiana Limestone.
